The Art of Living
NewVue Communities, in collaboration with the Fitchburg Art Museum, is embarking on an inspiring endeavor to repurpose three historically significant municipal buildings into dynamic live/workspaces tailored for artists and their families. These buildings, namely the former BF Brown Middle School, the former City Stables, and the former High School Annex, will be transformed into a collection of 68 mixed-income apartments available for rent, ranging from cozy studios to spacious three-bedroom units.
This revitalization project boasts a multitude of amenities designed to foster creativity and community engagement. Among them are a communal space, on-site management services, a dedicated classroom for community activities, an artist community lounge, several galleries, open studios for artists to showcase their work, and a sound studio catering to audio and podcast creators. Additionally, there will be nearly 14,000 square feet of workspace provided exclusively for artists.
While residency is open to individuals from all walks of life, we particularly encourage applications from those within the artistic community. Our definition of "artist" encompasses a broad spectrum of creative endeavors, spanning traditional art forms to contemporary expressions such as clothing design, digital arts, craftwork, and performance arts, including cultural professionals like art educators.
These apartments are available to the general public, and prospective residents are invited to participate in a lottery scheduled for July 2024, with the application period commencing in May 2024. Interested individuals are encouraged to join our interest list by completing a form, ensuring they receive timely updates and announcements from the community.
Anticipated move-in dates are set for January 2025, marking the beginning of a vibrant new chapter in Fitchburg's cultural landscape. Voucher holders are encouraged to apply.
